Now is the time to support our youth and young adults facing mental health challenges.
Since 2014, HumanityCenter4Change has trained more than 10,000 participants in Behavioral Mental Health First Aid—equipping parents, educators, and community members with the tools to recognize and respond when young people are in distress.
Just as traditional first aid provides immediate care before professional help arrives, Behavioral Mental Health First Aid prepares everyday people to:
  • Respond effectively in a youth mental health emergency
  • Offer support and encouragement to a young person in distress
  • Connect youth and families to the professional help they need sooner
Youth and young adults experience mental health challenges differently than adults. Symptoms of the same disorder can look very different in teens compared to adults. Conditions such as ADHD, disruptive behavior disorders, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), and conduct disorder are especially common in youth.
Through this training, participants learn how to spot the signs early, reduce stigma, and take action with compassion and confidence. Every person trained becomes part of a growing network of community responders working to protect and uplift our youth.

Getting Prepared

The Behavioral Mental Health First Course is for adults working or living with adolescents (those aged between 12 and 18 years), however, the course can be relevant for those helping people who are a little younger or older. This course is particularly suitable for Law Enforcement, Clinicians, Youth Workers, Parents, College Students who are studying Psychology, Teachers, Sports Coaches, Policy Makers, and Community Leaders.

Choose to take the Course

The course teaches adults how to assist adolescents who are developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis. Course participants learn about adolescent development, the signs and symptoms of the common and disabling mental health problems in young people, where and how to get help when a young person is developing a mental illness, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
