What is a mental health crisis?A crisis is when a young person may hurt themselves or others, can’t stay safe, or needs immediate help. Common signs include:
- Rapid mood swings; severe agitation or pacing
- Talking very fast or not making sense; confused or paranoid thoughts
- Hallucinations or delusions
- Threats of self-harm or harm to others; suicidal statements
- Extreme withdrawal (not leaving room), not eating or sleeping
- Sudden changes: can’t calm down, can’t be supervised safely
